Plan “B” Further Thoughts on Faith

Ann Lamott is a Christian author whose honesty and humor charmed me enough in the past to buy extra copies of her books “Bird by Bird” and “Traveling Mercies” to give away.

One volume of essays I recently discovered entitled “Plan B” deals with LaMott’s reaction to the reelection of George W. Bush in 1994. To her it felt like the end of the world. The theme of the book is how she overcame discouragement and continued spreading good will in spite of a greedy and corrupt political regime.

Ann made it through back in ’04 by witnessing God’s light pour in through the cracks in flawed people, including ourselves, and a tragically flawed system.

Twenty-three years later, different administration and even more greed and corruption. The good news is the cracks have also grown, allowing in much more light. Pay attention to the cracks!
