Redeeming Love
How many times has a simple story lifted your spirits or caused you to reflect on the goodness of God?
The first Christian novel I read was Francine Rivers’ Redeeming Love. The tremendous odds Angel faces as a child, rejection of her father, the betrayal of her mother, and the cruelty of the man who hires her out for money make my problems seem tiny. But the mercy of God in sending her a man who refuses to give up her reflects the love of Christ for each one of us.
On a personal note, Redeeming Love was the book that started me on my journey with There is a River. Angel’s story is the favorite of a number of young women in my family, a dog-eared copy has been passed around for years. There is power in the blood and in the written word. I thought I recognized that book!❤️✝️
I am always drawn to David vs. Goliath novels. I met Jesus very young, and understood early that truth and justice are companions on a lonely path. In To Kill A Mockingbird and The Nightengale, perhaps God is not explicitly mentioned as the reason the “David’s” stood up for what is good and right and true, but clearly God instills truth and justice and these heroes showed me even death cannot take away your most valuable possession, your soul.
I love this book and so did most of my daughters and co workers. I would love love love to find more like it. I still try to remember that at some of my lowest points – I was still greatly loved and even desired❤️
