| Settling in for our Friday movie night my husband scrolled through Roku, Tubi, and Pluto. Finding anything worthwhile that Hollywood has to offer has become increasingly difficult. We finally agreed on two films, but after giving them a chance, we baled on both. The stories were disappointing. So, I pulled out a book—a cozy mystery I picked up at a local shop. I’ve been told cozies are hot right now, perhaps since readers crave predictability in our rapidly changing world.
The Map in the Attic by Jolyn Sharp is an Annie’s Attic Mystery. In the opening scene, a father receives a phone call in the middle of the night, waking him just before his house bursts into flames. He saves his family, but that’s all. Enter the Hook and Needle Club. What could be cozier than a group of middle-aged women meeting in a yarn shop in a little town on the Maine coast called The Stich in Time. The ladies slowly unravel the reason for the mysterious fire using a beautifully embroidered map which Annie finds in her attic. Not a new book, but a great one to curl up with when Netflix comes up short.
On my own book front, Pelican Book Group has requested a complete manuscript of The Light Within. I will keep you posted.
Since I now own the rights, I have linked the first chapter of my first novel, The Code. If there is interest, I will post a chapter each month. Serialization worked for Charles Dickens. I thought I’d give it a try.
Warm regards, and happy Thanksgiving!
